What is the difference between the Open Water Referral and Open Water Non-Referral course?

The Referral course is recommended for students who wish to start their dive training with us, then complete their open water dives and certification at antoher location. If you plan to travel to a tropical dive destination, the Referral course is a great way to optimize your time since you will complete all of the home study and pool training before your trip. This is also a great option if you do not want to dive in colder waters.

The Non-Referral course is the complete training program, and includes four open water dives completed over two days in Monterey, California. Once you have successfully completed the Non-Referral course, you will be a certified PADI Open Water Diver!

How much does it cost to sign up?

The Open Water Diver Non-Referral course is $599.00. The Open Water Diver Referral course is $379.00. Please visit the courses page for more information on available courses. All course fees are non-refundable.

What does the price include?

Open Water Non-Referral Course:

Everythin you need to complete the course is included in the price. This includes PADI eLearning home study material and all equipment needed for the pool and ocean sessions. For the non-referral course you do not need to purchase any extra equipment or gear, the price will cover everything you need to get certified. You can find complete details on the courses page.

 

Open Water Referral Course:

For the referral course this includes PADI eLearning home study materials and all the equipment needed for the pool session only. You can find complete details on the courses page.

 

Dry Suit Diver Course:

The price of the dry suit diver course does not include the rental for the dry suit itself.

 

All Other Courses:

For all other courses aside from what is specified above, you will need to rent or own the equipment necessary for the course.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes, you need to have basic swimming skills to scuba dive. You will need to pass a 200 yard swim test without stopping, or be able to swim 300 yards with mask, fins, and snorkel, without stopping.

How cold is the water?

The average ocean temperature in Montere, California is 55 degrees farenheit (12.7 degrees celcius) year round, but you will be provided with a wetsuit, hood, gloves and booties to keep you warm if enrolled in the Open Water Non-Referral Diver Course. Otherwise, equipment is available to rent from our store as well.

What is the minimum age to learn to scuba dive?

The minimum age requirement is 10 years of age. Student divers younger than 15 years of age will earn the PADI Junior Open Water Diver Certification, which they may upgrade to PADI Open Water Diver Certification upon reaching the age of 15. When are classes offered?

Please refere to our calendar. Classes fill quickly, so we encourage you to sign up as soon as you have a date in mind. Please check the calendar for availability. Private courses can also be scheduled.

How much time does it take to complete the Open Water Diver course?

We estimate that eLearning (home study) will take about 8-10 hours. Pool work is an accelerated session completed over 1 session lasting 7 hours. Finally, the ocean dives are completed over 2 days.

Where is the pool located?

We have two locations that we use for pool sessions depending upon availability. You will meet with your instructor at Breakwater Scuba, 225 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA 93940 prior to going to the pool.

What do I need to bring to the pool?

Release forms, swimsuit, and towel. Please remember that if you answer, "yes," to a question on the medical release form that you must be cleared by your doctor and bring a signed medical release from to your first pool session.

Where do we meet for the ocean session, and what time do we start?

We will meet at Breakwater Scuba, 225 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA 93940. We will start at 8:00AM both Saturday and Sunday.

Am I guaranteed to pass the course?

No, students who do not complete the coursework, or cannot perform the skills necessary to pass PADI's requirements will not be considered a safe and competent diver. Of course, if you are unable to pass, we will make reasonable accommodations for students to make up any requirements for certification. All course fees are non-refundable.

Will I receive a refund if I am unable to complete the class?

No. All course fees are non-refundable. Please refer to our Refund and Rescheduling policy for more details on rescheduling your class. Once you have begun the course, you have one year from the date of your pool session to complete your training.

What will happen if I cannot copmlete the course?

You are more than welcome to come back wihtin a reasonable time frame to follow up on a pool or ocean session. Please contact us for more information.
